'Shades of Blue' Plot, News, Cast: Jennifer Lopez Is a Bad Cop Turned Informant in Her New Show

Recently, more and more Hollywood stars are crossing over to television, perhaps because there is more potential in the TV industry. With the likes of Halle Berry and Morgan Freeman taking TV series projects, it seems the latest one to jump the bandwagon is none other than Jennifer Lopez, who is taking over the small screen in 2016. Despite being a judge for a couple of seasons for "American Idol," it seems that television drama is the only thing left that Lopez hasn't taken over in her career, and with that, the Latina actress seems intent on grabbing the chance.

According to Screen Rant, NBC obviously hopes to start 2016 with a bang by putting Lopez in a new police drama that will explore the good and bad law enforcement. The trailer for the show immediately showcased what is to be expected of the series, as the first few seconds showed Lopez, who plays policewoman Harlee Santos, craftily staging a shoot-out after her partner had accidentally shot a drug dealer playing a shooting video game. It then jumps to short clips with a voice-over explaining Santos loyalty to a group of dirty cops. She later then lands in the custody of the FBI who forces her to become their informant. Her fight to stay alive while trying to lead a double life and keep her daughter safe starts then.

Lopez stars with Matt Wozniak, who plays the head of the dirty cops group Ray Liotta and Dayo Okeniyi as her partner Loman. Other casts include Warren Kole, Drea de Matteo, Hampton Fluker, Vincent Laresca, and Sarah Jeffer. Although this may be Lopez's first TV action drama, it isn't her first time to play tough as she has done so in countless movies before such as her recent films "The Boy Next Door" and "Lila and Eve."
