'The Surge' Latest Trailer Focuses on Hacking Enemy Limbs to Get Equipment

Deck 13 and Focus Home Interactive's upcoming action/role-playing game (RPG) "The Surge" is just a month prior its launch, and gamers can expect a lot of publicity around it in the following weeks. Today, a video clip shows how it is more than just a simple hack-and-slash title, and that careful decision-making goes a long way.

The latest trailer shows the player can examine an enemy before engaging in a fight, then focus on dismembering a limb where the desired equipment is. Doing that allows the player to use the looted item, which helps in survival in the long run while collecting more parts.

With this mechanic, it is clear to see that each player will have a different experience from that of another. It is up to the gamer to choose which body part to target and which ones to equip, making it a fully customized character.

Information on the official website gives further light on this mechanic. Just like what is seen in the teaser, the player can target a limb that determines the obtainable item. There's also the option of targeting the exposed, unprotected body part, making a shorter fight but without any loot to show for. This will, of course, depend on the gamble one is willing to take.

The plot of the game revolves around the protagonist Warren, who is plunged into a fight for his life after something goes terribly wrong within the CREO complex. After the unexplained catastrophe, all other machineries and surviving humans are somewhat altered, targeting Warren who must push forward and discover the enigma of the unfortunate events.

Is there a deep, sinister plot hidden in the supposed "accidents" in the complex that aimed to save the world? Or is that a mere façade? Warren will have to see for himself.

"The Surge" makes its way on PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One and PC platforms on May 16, 2017.
