Walmart

In a Nov. 25 X post, Starbuck recalled how he had informed the major retailer Walmart of his intention to do "a story on wokeness there." He expressed gratitude that before he had the chance to share his findings with the public, Walmart committed to making several changes to its business practices to address his concerns.

In addition to committing to no longer participate in the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index, Walmart vowed to "Monitor the Walmart marketplace to identify and remove inappropriate sexual and / or transgender products marketed to children" and "Review all funding of Pride, and other events, to avoid funding inappropriate sexualized content targeting kids."

The big box store chain also abandoned its Racial Equity Center, which was established in 2020 as a five-year initiative, and committed to taking action to ensure that the company did not "provide preferential treatment and benefits to suppliers based on diversity." Use of the term "Latinx" to refer to Latinos and racial equity training were also placed on the chopping block.
